President Joe Biden issues statement on Charlotte shooting; calls on lawmakers to ban assault weapons — On Monday, President Joe Biden offered his condolences to the families of the four officers killed during a shooting in an east Charlotte neighborhood. In his statement, he called on lawmakers to pass a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The suspected shooter, identified as Terry Clark Hughes, 39, used an assault-style weapon during the shooting, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
