North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper had the Tar Heels winning the NCAA Tournament in 2016. The most honorable fan in the state almost had it right, but Villanova's Kris Jenkins had the final say in Houston. Cooper changed his approach in 2017, selecting Kentucky over North Carolina in the regional finals with the hope it would work as a reverse jinx. Cooper's homage to going where you go and doing what you do personally paid off as the Tar Heels cut down the nets in Phoenix after a beating Gonzaga.
Is the Governor up to the same shenanigans with his 2018 NCAA Tournament bracket?
Cooper filled out his picks inside the Governor's Mansion on Tuesday morning and offered 99.9FM The Fan his quick analysis from the Sweet 16 through the final.
The Governor's big board features five teams from the ACC and a rematch of the conference championship game between North Carolina and Virginia in the Final Four. Cooper has NC State over Seton Hall, but losing to Kansas in the following round. Outside of the ACC, Cooper held his North Carolina homerism in check having UNC-Greensboro lose to Gonzaga in the opening round and Davidson fail to make it past Arizona.
