NC State announced today in a release that it has relieved defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable of his duties.
Huxtable had been with Doeren in Raleigh as defensive coordinator since Doeren's first year in 2013.
The Wolfpack finished this year with a 4-7 record and while injuries riddled the defense, it finished the regular season 74th nationally in total defense.
NC State was 29th in total defense in 2015 and 24th in 2016, the best year of Huxtable's tenure, but it had slipped back down in recent years in 58th in 2017 and 66th last year.
"We appreciate all of Dave's contributions to our program and wish him the best," Doeren said, according to the release. "However moving forward defensively, I've decided we would like to go in a different direction."
NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan also had a statement in the release:
"The conclusion of a season is a time to reflect, look in the mirror and evaluate the overall direction of a program. Dave Doeren is our football coach. He has earned it by winning nine games in back-to-back seasons and I look forward to doing all I can to help Coach Doeren moving forward. The 2019 season didn't unfold the way any of us wanted but we will continue to invest in this program, and to provide the resources to help NC State football compete at the highest level."
