The Triangle has been home to some huge music events in the past decade. Here's our top 10 list for the decade:

Beyonce at Carter-Finely Stadium (May 4, 2016) - The beehive was in full effect at this sold-out show. It was the "Lemonade" era, and crowds braved severe weather to see Bey perform her hits. Crowds were even moved into nearby PNC Arena due to a lightning threat. In the end, Bey danced in the rain and brought the house down.
Garth Brooks plays three shows at PNC Arena (March 11-13, 2016) - After an 18-year break, Brooks returned to the stage with a stadium tour in 2016 that stopped at Raleigh's PNC Arena. He played three sold-out shows with wife Trisha Yearwood. In an interview with media prior to the first show, Brooks said with tears in his eyes that he wasn't sure people would come to see him again after so much time off.
Rolling Stones play Carter-Finley Stadium (July 1, 2015) - An estimated 40,000 people crowded this stadium to see the band's 50th anniversary “Zip Code” tour with opening act The Avett Brothers.

Art of Cool Festival debuts in Durham and grows into a major festival - The festival launched in 2014 and has since grown to include programming at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Headliners have included Jill Scott, Run D.M.C, Nas and Erykah Badu.

Hopscotch Music Festival launches in downtown Raleigh and becomes one of nation's top festivals- The festival launched in September 2010 with headliners Public Enemy. The following year The Flaming Lips had a huge headlining set in City Plaza, but our favorite Hopscotch memory was clearly The Roots playing in the rain in City Plaza in 2012. There were several weather delays, but the fans who stuck around were treated to one of the biggest moments in Hopscotch history.
Two festivals make Triangle their home - Moogfest began in New York City in 2004 as a tribute to Moog Music founder and inventor of the analog synthesizer, Dr. Robert Moog. The electronic music festival ran there through 2008, before moving to Asheville in 2010. The festival moved to Durham in 2016. Notable headliners throughout the years have included The Flaming Lips, Primus, Massive Attack, Moby, TV on the Radio, Grimes, Questlove and Thomas Dolby. Organizers announced in December that the 2020 festival was canceled, and the future of the event remains unknown.
The International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass event moved to Raleigh in 2013. The event encompasses four events, including the International Bluegrass Music Awards and Wide Open Bluegrass, which includes a free street festival, and shows at Red Hat Amphitheater. The festival will remain in Raleigh through 2021.
Hamilton plays Durham (November 2018) - This Broadway smash played to sold-out audiences at Durham Performing Arts Center for a month in 2018. The fun, fast-moving take on the story of Alexander Hamilton definitely lived up to the hype. And it's coming back to DPAC for the 2020-2021 Broadway season.
J. Cole brings Dreamville Festival to Dix Park (April 2019) - North Carolina's own J. Cole brought his inaugural Dreamville Festival to Dix Park in April. (It was postponed from its original September 2018 date due to Hurricane Florence.) It was the first major concert event at Dix Park and went off with few issues. Headliners included Cole, Nelly, Rapsody, SZA, Big Sean and 21 Savage. The sold-out festival was so popular it will be returning in 2020.

Paul McCartney at PNC Arena (May 27, 2019) - A few weeks shy of his 77th birthday, McCartney brought his "Freshen Up" tour to a packed crowd at PNC Arena. It was his first Raleigh performance since 2002 and lasted just under three hours, with 38 songs spanning his career before, during and after the Beatles.

A pair of piano men play PNC Arena - Billy Joel played a sold-out show at PNC Arena in February 2014 with special guest Gavin DeGraw. Not to be outdone, Elton John played sold-out shows at the same venue twice this decade; the most recent being his "Farewell to "Yellow Brick Road" tour in March 2019. He also played there in 2012.
