NC State's Sean Brown made the switch from safety to linebacker this offseason. Brown is excited about the move and spoke about how he's been preparing and what advice he got from Peyton Wilson
Did you go to that being a linebacker? Uh, coach GV actually was kind of trolling me during the season last year, uh, saying that he's gonna move in a linebacker and like, I kinda like knew he was coming once the season was over. And so, you know, I talked to do and give me and then I feel like they feel like it was the best decision for me, you know, talking to my family, they felt it was the best decision for me too because it is awesome. Uh, yeah, I had gained some weight, uh, right now I'm about 215 and so, um, and just also getting with Caden and then Betty doing some linebacker drills and then just getting with them in the off time, just talking about run fits knowing kind of who's been through that position, you know, what, what are you taking from their games? And, uh, so during the off season, I, I went back and kinda watched Peyton's films just to see what he did good. And then, you know, I hit him up on, uh, what talked about like, what's the, the keys to be a good with linebacker and, you know, just getting with him and just, and watching films just, it's just gonna help me excel at the playing that position. How much is that game where you fill in for him in that last, you know, does that give you any confidence, you know, making the switch? You know, I mean, you, you did it. Yeah. You know, when, um, when they told me, uh, uh, they was planning on moving a linebacker, I kinda felt like to me personally, I feel like it was gonna be easier for me since I'm more closer to the line of scrimmage and then I don't have to do as much covering as I did at safety, but like I said, I feel like it was gonna be easier for me if I just did the transition. How much have you heard the name Jermaine Pratt in the last few months? Uh, I seen it on Twitter. I really haven't heard it. Like my coaches really ain't say nothing about it, but I have seen it on Twitter that like he could be an next Jermaine Jermaine Pat Pratt. Mhm. Yeah, that could be you. Uh, yeah, I mean, you know, I, I just wanna be Sean Brown, you know, I wanna be my own guy. I wanna build my own legacy. So that's just kind of what I wanna do. So when you thought the baby was, what kind of advice do you, uh, he just kinda talked about like, you know, at the real position, you kinda gotta be quick on your feet and, you know, you gotta make decisions like, right then and there, you know, you can't really hesitate and then whatever you do just do it full speed. Are you excited? You talked about having less cover? Mm uh Well, for at the, at that position, you know, it's really either I gotta do this or that. And so like, I feel like it, it's kinda like the same but like kinda it would be easier so that I didn't really ask him about that really out of the room. Kind of excited to see some of the young. Yeah, I don't know if he was out there but Zach got a pick so I was, I was very excited for him and, you know, Brodie and um and then torrent. So I'm just, you know, tae has been meeting with me asking me about the free safety spot, so I'm kinda excited to see how they do when you look back. I mean, in the beginning of the year, they would take you out in the nick or dime by the end of the year, you were doing really well on past coverage. How, how much do you feel that you improved as a, as a pa past defender last year? Uh Well, I kinda knew that was one of my weaknesses and you know, what practice goes through and it always tells us to have one more. So when we were in practice, I just kinda hard on like, my coverages whether as man or his own. And so it was just something I really focused on getting better at and then, you know what? Yeah.
