An algebra teacher at Enloe Magnet High School in Raleigh was named 2012 Wake County Teacher of the Year at a banquet Thursday night. Lauren Brooks, who will represent Wake County in the statewide Teacher of the Year competition, was chosen among 12 finalists for the award.
Parents and leaders in eastern Wake County say they've been quiet too long about their schools not getting the attention and resources that other parts of the county receive.
The Wake County school board voted Tuesday to accommodate the transportation needs of 470 students who chose not to switch to a new school provided by the choice-based assignment plan and to, instead, be grandfathered into their old school.
