RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh woman’s charge was upgraded from felony assault to murder after the woman she was accused of shooting in a Raleigh CVS parking died. On Thursday, Tiffany Jackson, 35, appeared in court to a face a judge on the new charge.

Jackson, who is now charged with murder for the shooting on Battle Bridge Road on March 26, has no prior criminal record. Jackson had originally been charged with assault following the shooting.

According to a witness who was in the parking lot of that CVS and called 911, it appeared the shooting may have been the result of road rage. Two other cars were also hit by gunfire in the CVS parking lot, but no one else was hurt.

A 911 called described the incident between the women.

"They were coming into the driveway, they were cutting one another off, then the girl in the burgundy car got out pulled a gun [and] shot her," the caller told the 911 dispatcher. "Now she’s acting like a fool, running around in circles saying, 'What should I do?'"

Sharon Thomas, who is a breast cancer survivor, lived for five days after the shooting.

"We are saddened by the senseless act of gun violence our mother experienced. She did not deserve what happened to her, and we would like your support in getting the justice Sharon deserves," Thomas' family posted on social media.

During a vigil at Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church last weekend, Thomas' loved ones also called for action on gun control to prevent more deaths.

"Historically, for the African-American community, we've always rallied around one another in the midst of tragedy and in the midst of loss. But it's important for us to send a message that gun control must come to the forefront of our legislators, and even this country because senseless killings are going on in our community and we are tired of it. Here's a beautiful life that's been cut short because of gun violence," said Mark Gibson, the senior pastor at Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church.

Thomas' family has set up a GoFundMe to help support her youngest child. The family has raised over $8,000.

Jackson was being held without bond following the upgraded charge.
