Woman dies after being shot outside CVS in Raleigh

People gathered at a Raleigh church on Saturday to remember a woman shot outside a CVS last week.

Loved ones said Sharon Thomas, 53, died at a local hospital after being shot on Battle Bridge Road last Saturday.

A witness who called 911 to report the shooting said that Thomas and another woman were involved in a road rage encounter before the shots were fired.

A caller told the 911 operator that a woman shot another woman in the back while she was sitting in her car. The two women were cutting each other off while driving in the parking lot, according to the 911 calls. According to the caller, the woman who fired shots was acting erratic after the shooting, running around in circles saying, "what should I do?"

Tiffany Latoya Jackson, 35, was charged Saturday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Officials said charges could be upgraded in the coming days.

On Saturday, Thomas' loved ones called for action on gun control to prevent more deaths.

"Historically, for the African-American community, we've always rallied around one another in the midst of tragedy and in the midst of loss. But it's important for us to send a message that gun control must come to the forefront of our legislators, and even this country because senseless killings are going on in our community and we are tired of it. Here's a beautiful life that's been cut short because of gun violence," said Mark Gibson, the senior pastor at Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church.

Two other cars were hit by gunfire in the CVS parking lot but no one else was hurt. Jackson posted bond on Monday afternoon and is due back in court next month.
