Githens Middle School girls soccer hasn't lost a game since 2016. Here's how win No. 100 came together and how the team celebrated.
In 2016, Giffin middle school lost its first girls soccer game of the season to a really good team at Lucas. And then ever since then we've won the rest of them. How many? Exactly Tuesday's win against Lowe's Grove marked number 100. That's gotta be a lot of pressure. Pretty stressful. Like it, it took up a lot of my mind. Like I was constantly thinking that I was dreaming about it. Like it was a lot all under head coach, Rory mcelroy who's been a Gins for 12 years. So, what's the secret? I don't wanna say luck because not luck, but I'm lucky that we've gotten so many good players setting a high standard too because I think that a lot of the kids that come in, they like, expect to be good. We have a plan to dump it on him. So I'm so happy right now. Like I'm so proud of that. We all worked for this. Like everyone from like the years back, some of those players were here for this moment like Tiana Hill who plays soccer at Mount Olive. This is my first time coming back to get them since I left, I graduated eighth grade and so she was a part of win. Number one, not everybody gets to experience, you know, 100 wins. Just the feeling of going undefeated in general. So I think it's kind of just nostalgia. I just wanted to come back and feel it all again. Brianna Pinto from the NC. Courage was there as well. She went to Giffin but didn't play soccer at the school on Tuesday. She wanted to celebrate the girls. I like winning. So coming back on their 1/100 consecutive win is super special. Um Just to see their joy on their faces and then have the celebration. That joy is what mcilroy will always remember about the streak win or lose. It was always good. Like no matter what was going on at school or life or anything, it was always a really positive thing because I honestly can't say like that we've had like a bad day, Luis Fernandez Wrel Sports Durham.
