UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham and Rams Club director John Montgomery sent an email to UNC football season ticketholders with an update about the 2020 season, as much as they could provide one.
There are not a lot of certainties when it comes to the 2020 college football season, but the one thing UNC has decided on definitively is that they will not distribute season tickets because they will need to reshuffle the seating arrangements to accommodate social distancing.
"Data and trends regarding the COVID-19 pandemic continue to provide moving targets for decisions, but reduced fan capacity in Kenan Stadium will be a necessity," the email reads. "We are planning for multiple scenarios and will continue to work with University and state officials as well as health experts to determine the appropriate level of capacity, which may vary throughout the season. The decision will affect how we handle tickets."
The University is still developing a process to distribute the season tickets, and fans who have already ordered them will be updated with their options, which are: receive a full refund, roll over the 2020 season tickets to 2021 or donate the season ticket purchase as a tax-deductible gift to the the athletic department.
The email also says that UNC will go fully digital with tickets as a result of the pandemic and that individual game tickets can be requested and purchased through a process that will give priority to Rams Club donors.
"We understand that the uncertainty about the fall sports seasons can be frustrating; we all want answers," the email says. "Please know our focus remains on the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and Carolina community – you – which is why we are doing everything we can to determine the best answers."
