Cary, N.C. — Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin honored the North Carolina Courage for the team’s 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup Championship.
Baldwin declared Thursday North Carolina Courage Day to celebrate the team’s Challenge Cup Championship. On Thursday, she was at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary for the team’s training. She honored the club for its NWSL record seventh league trophy, which the team won in September.
“They’re the best team around,” Baldwin said. “I mean this is, like, amazing, and watching them play, they do not get the recognition they deserve.
“We have six of the best women’s soccer players in the world on this team, and having them all gather today, watching them train, it’s amazing. I have so much respect.”
The Courage had six players compete in the 2023 Women’s World Cup:
- Emily Fox for the United States
- Casey Murphy for the United States
- Kerolin Nicoli for Brazil
- Denise O’Sullivan for Ireland
- Rikki Madsen for Denmark
- Mille Gejl for Denmark
Baldwin plans to attend the Courage’s game on Saturday night against the San Diego Wave.
