Tar River Running Company’s Michael Forrester has organized several races for the greater North Carolina community, including the annual Mill Chill 4-Mile in Rocky Mount that benefits the National MS Society. Now he's focusing on a different kind of race to help runners and North Carolina craft brewery employees impacted by various "stay-at-home" orders due to COVID-19.
The "Flatten The Curve Race" was designed to give runners who had been training for various spring races that have been canceled or postponed a new goal.
Participants can choose a virtual 5K or 19K, with the registration fee covering event swag and the rest of the money will be spread to 24 local breweries who have helped Forrester's Mill Chill in the past. Participants are encouraged to donate additional money to one of the breweries or to split the proceeds through a "virtual tip jar."
Forrester joined the Runologie Podcast to discuss how the "Flatten The Curve Race" came together, the impact COVID-19 on the craft beer scene, and how he hopes local run clubs who have always enjoyed local beer can do their part in the community.
