Duke's Caleb Foster out for season with stress fracture

The chances of Duke freshman guard Caleb Foster returning to play this season were already low, but head coach Jon Scheyer bumped them down to zero. Scheyer confirmed Foster will miss the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his ankle on Thursday, prior to the team's game against 13-seed Vermont on Friday night.
Foster hasn't played since the initial injury in February against Wake Forest.
"We have to look at things differently, that's just the bottom line. There's not all of a sudden where you plug somebody in for Caleb, nobody does what Caleb does on our team," Scheyer said back in February after it was determined Foster would miss "some time" with the injury.
Foster averaged 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists this season, averaging 25.5 minutes per game. He was also shooting 40.6 percent from three. Foster proved to be a key contributor for the Blue Devils, working his way into the starting lineup with injuries to Tyrese Proctor and Jeremy Roach earlier in the season. Duke is 3-2 since Foster's injury.
Fellow freshman Sean Stewart and TJ Power have seen their roles grow the most in Foster's absence.
The Blue Devils, a 4-seed in the South Region, will host 13-seed Vermont on Friday at 7:10 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
