Charlotte FC defeats Chelsea in front of more than 50,000 fans at Bank of America Stadium

Charlotte, N.C. — Charlotte FC defeated Chelsea in a penalty shootout to settle a 1-1 score in regulation in front of 52,673 fans at Bank of America Stadium.
Chelsea, one of the most prestigious clubs in the English Premiere League, brought its traveling squad to Charlotte for a friendly against the expansion Major League Soccer franchise.
Charlotte FC dramatically tied the game at 1-1 when Daniel Rios scored in the second minute of stoppage time.
Charlotte FC outscored Chelsea in the penalty shootout, 5-3.
Chelsea led 1-0 at halftime after Christian Pulisic scored in the 30th minute.
