Charlotte, N.C. — Miguel Ángel Ramírez, former head coach of Charlotte's professional men's soccer team, has been fired halfway through the team's first season.
Charlotte FC announced Tuesday assistant coach Christian Lattanzio will serve as interim coach for the remainder of the 2022 season.
Ramírez was relieved of his duties by sporting director Zoran Krneta and president Joe LaBue. The reasoning behind their decision was not made public.
“This is a difficult decision, but one we feel is best for the team at this time,” said Charlotte FC owner David Tepper. “I want to thank Miguel and his staff for their hard work during our first season and wish them the best in their future endeavors.”
Assistant coach Mikel Antía, head fitness coach Cristobal Fuentes Nieto and video analyst Luis Piedrahita will also depart the Club.
Ramírez became the Club’s first head coach on July 7, 2021. In his 14 games, the team can claim five wins, eight losses and one tie.
The Club’s next game is in Charlotte against the New York Red Bulls on June 11 at 3 p.m.
