“While summer camp will be a bit different this year, we recognize the important role we play in the community” says Oscar Carmona, director of Raleigh Parks, in the announcement. "We have identified camps that can successfully be modified to meet new camp guidelines, and have prioritized camps that provide all-day, all-week care for working families."

Summer X-Press, Teen X-Treme, and Specialized Recreation camps will be held, but all other camps will be canceled, the announcement said. A full listing of camps and their status is available on the Raleigh Parks website. Update: It's important to note that no new registration for camps will be taken for the summer, according to the city.

According to the announcement, the city will be making modifications to program activities and policies. Families who no longer wish to participate can get a full refund or credit toward a future program. In May, Raleigh announced that its summer camps would be canceled through at least June 26 because of the pandemic.

Camp providers across the region are making tough decisions about the summer. Cary and Chapel Hill's parks departments canceled their camps for the entire summer in late May. Registration for Durham's summer camps is delayed until further notice. But dozens of private camps are going on as planned. Check out our list of more than 50 camps across the Triangle that are still scheduled.
