The first mom to be featured in our Made by Mom Gift Guide, featuring local moms and the products that they've created, is Heather Campbell of H. Lea Designs.

Campbell had about a year to wait before she was able to bring home her adopted daughter from China. And that's when this mom of one (and hopefully very soon two as she waits to adopt another child from Taiwan) picked up knitting. She got the book "Knitting for Dummies" and started working on a blanket.

When Bella came home, Campbell tried her hand at hats. Not being able to quite figure out how to close up the top of the hat, she instead knitted a hat with two tassels of yarn on top. And that's how the Bella hat, as friends at preschool began to call it, was born. It became so popular that Campbell began making them for her daughter's preschool friends, noting the color of their coats to be sure they'd match.

When people started asking her where she got the hat when the family was out and about at Target, for instance, this working mom thought that maybe she was on to something. Campbell launched her shop on Etsy last fall.

Campbell's line also includes other styles now, including a vintage knit hat with a hand-knitted flower. She typically makes hats for size 12 months to 5T, but she's made them bigger for older kids and adults. Each hat is custom made and is priced at $18.

And stay tuned Saturday for our next installment of our Made by Mom Gift Guide!
