MEBANE, N.C. — I'm a simple cup kind of girl. A bit of cream and sugar is all I need. There's a lot of coffee extravagance out there but I'm yet to experience most of it.

I also love my simple coffee pot and the convenience of strolling to my kitchen for that morning fix. I'm not fond of coffee on-the-go and the rushed energy surrounding it. My morning cup is sacred to me and an experience I'm sure you fellow coffee lovers understand.

I now get why my grandparents woke up extra early. They'd make a beeline to grab their cups and sit by the wood burning stove in their drafty house. Or, in warmer temps, you'd find them on the porch listening to the world wake up.

These memories and my own appreciation of simplicity is why I rarely have coffee outside of my four walls. The ironic thing is...I love coffee shops. It's usually the aroma, decor, and promise of focused productivity that draws me in.

It was during an early meeting that I realized coffee shop mornings have their own magic. It's not the same peace I find at home but the camaraderie is surprisingly welcoming. Almost everyone is there for the same reason, to enjoy an experience and get their bearings for the day.

My friend and I chose to meet at Filament Coffee + Tea. It's located at 108 B West Clay Street in Mebane. This was our first visit and we made an event of it by ordering food, too. I remember having their classic apple oatmeal with walnuts. We had such a good time it left me curious about other shops in the area.

Due to the pandemic, however, I never got a chance to explore the others. Not long after our visit, things began to shut down. And like everyone else, I found myself confined to my home. I recently pulled out the old coffee shop list I made and added to it.

In addition to Filament Coffee + Tea, I've heard wonderful things about many local shops. Excellent customer service, great atmosphere, and quality product reviews are what captured my interest about those mentioned below.

I'm sharing in case you find yourself in the area and are interested in checking them out. Our local businesses can also use the support! Be sure to follow the links for operation hours and menu details.

As I visit more coffee shops, I'll fill you in on my experiences with more photos and details.

Melomania Records - Located at 116 West Clay St., Mebane, NC 27302

This was once Reed's Coffee & Art. Although infrequent, my daughters and I liked to stop in for treats after school. 2020 wreaked havoc on so many businesses and Reed's was no different. It was in danger of closing for good. There's a beautiful story of community & new beginnings on the current website.

I'm excited to stop by and experience the newness of Melomania Records. From the vinyl to the breakfast menu, it already feels like a good time awaits.

Angelina European Cafe' - Located at 220 Huffman Mill Rd, Burlington, NC 27215

I honestly didn't have to know anything about the food and beverage choices in this place. An online picture of the decor won me over with its eclectic designs and vibrant colors. Consider me thoroughly intrigued! Check it out for yourself.

The Blend & Co - Located at 127 E Front St., Burlington, NC 27215

I've never purchased from here but many people I know have. They always rave about how great this place is-especially the customer service. I'm definitely making a stop soon. I'll let you know how it goes.
