Code Breakers: TechGirlz adds second Triangle location for national challenge to set record for number of girls coding at same time

In the Triangle, the first session at NC State filled up, so the local chapter now has another location for local girls. This one is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m., March 30, at IBM.

Back in February, I wrote about an event from TechGirlz that aims to set the world record for the number of girls coding at the same time.

TechGirlz is a national group with a North Carolina chapter that works to get middle school girls interested in tech careers. The event called Code Breakers will be held in honor of Women's History Month on March 30 and includes sessions around the country for girls in fifth to ninth grade.

“In Code Breakers, we hope to create a world record that can quickly be broken,” said TechGirlz CEO and founder Tracey Welson-Rossman in a news release. “There is a rising tide of girls joining programs like TechGirlz because of an interest in tech, to learn new skills with their friends, or to pursue it as a lucrative and empowering future career. It is only fitting that we recognize this sea change on the occasion of Women’s History Month.”

In the Triangle, the first session at NC State filled up, so the local chapter now has another location for local girls. This one is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m., March 30, at IBM.

"In this workshop, students will learn the elements of HTML and CSS and use them to create a website," the description says. "Using a text editor and web browser, students will edit web page templates and use them to make their own website."

More information, including how to register, is on the TechGirlz website. Snacks will be provided. Participants should bring their own laptop. It's free.
