NC records over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases for six straight days
In North Carolina, the state has reported more than 2,000 new cases of coronavirus for six days in a row, and it's possible that political rallies held over the weekend could push the numbers even higher.

The state's total number of cases is now more than 293,000.
Globally, Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker reported more than 50.2 million COVID-19 cases worlwide as of Sunday. There have been more than 1.2 million deaths from the disease worldwide since the pandemic started.
The U.S., with about 4% of the world’s population, represents almost a fifth of all reported cases.
State health officials are concerned COVID-19 will spread during large gatherings this season, whether at rallies or at family holiday celebrations.
“We’ve relaxed things too much; we’ve let down our guard," said Dr. David Wohl, an infectious disease specialist at UNC. "We’re not seeing people do what they need to do is really what I think is unfortunate.”
If people plan to gather in large groups, they are urged to stay outdoors, wear a face covering over their nose and mouth and maintain social distancing from others. With cases on the rise, families are encouraged to only gather with members of their households for Thanksgiving.
According to health officials, large groups have the potential to create super-spreader effects, which could have a devastating impact on the number of cases.
