Posted — UpdatedTeen Read Week runs Sunday through Oct. 24 and is designed for both tweens and teens. Dessen is the author of a dozen best-selling young adult novels including This Lullaby, The Truth About Forever, and, most recently, Saint Anything.
The week also includes an all-day movie marathon based on fairy tales, an after-dark scavenger hunt with teens hunting for clues around the library and Pritchard Park, a workshop on how to turn an old book into a hiding space and a writing workshop.
In a press release, Teen Services Coordinator Stephen Ashley said that unlike the Library’s Summer Reading Program, Teen Read Week is focused more on programs than reading goals.
“On any given day, we have so many young people come to the library to read, do homework and socialize," Ashley said. "Teen Read Week is all about celebrating their love of books, reading and having fun.”
All events are free and open to the public. Registration isn't required. (But if your tween/teen is participating in the scavenger hunt, they're encouraged to bring a flashlight).
Here's the schedule:
Saturday, October 24 in the Teen Room
