19-year-old charged with murder in shooting death near New Hope Road

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person needing medical attention around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of Hollenden Drive. Officers located a man suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A 19-year-old has been arrested in connection with a homicide that happened in northeast Raleigh on Dec. 6.

Tyshawn Marquis Cloud, 19, was arrested and charged with murder.

The victim, who was sent to the hospital with serious injuries after the shooting, was identified by Raleigh police as 19-year-old Jaleel Ni'Shawn Lyons.

In his obituary, Lyons' family said he was a student at Mary Phillip High School.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person needing medical attention around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of Hollenden Drive, off New Hope Road.

Officers located Lyons, who was suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived.

Officers were at the scene as late as 2:30 a.m. collecting evidence and determining the circumstances behind the shooting.

Lyons' family said in his obituary that a visitation will be held on Saturday at Hemby-Willoughby Chapel from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
