Video shows boy being thrown to the ground over spot in line at NC State Fair

The video appears to show the 9-year-old child being body slammed and then punched and kicked while on the ground. Several people appeared to be fighting each other around the boy. The boy is pulled out of harm's way as the brawl disperses.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said they're aware of the video and looking into the matter. An incident report lists the fight happening on the night of Oct. 21.

"We are in the process of identifying everyone involved," the WCSO said.

The boy's mother told WRAL News the fight stemmed from an argument over a spot in line for a ride. The mother is seen tussling with another person, as that person pulls on her hair.

"My kids and I were in line for a ride for well over an hour," said the woman, who asked not to be identified. "Lots of teenagers kept cutting in line, right and left. I said, 'Nope. The back of the line's down there.' Then, we were jumped from behind."

The mother said her son wasn't injured. However, she has a black eye and bruises on her body.

"We were just standing in line for a fun ride at the fair," said the mother. "Instead of a fun ride, they saw their mom get assaulted."

Some bystanders stepped in and made sure the child was not seriously hurt.

Fair organizers said they're aware of the video and "are sickened at what was shown." A state fair representative issued a statement, adding, "While isolated to one small area of the fairgrounds, the behavior Saturday night will not be tolerated. We are cooperating with investigators for anything we may provide them."
