Fire damages Wells Fargo Bank in Siler City Saturday

The fire was first noticed when a police officer responding to a crash saw smoke coming from the building.

A Wells Fargo was damaged by a fire Saturday afternoon in Siler City.

According to the Siler City Fire Department, a police officer was responding to an accident on East 5th Street when he saw smoke coming from the bank on North 2nd Avenue.

When fire crews arrived, they found the building was on fire.

Fire crews from Staley and Bonlee, along with a unit from First Health of the Carolinas, were able to limit the fire damage to the break room, mechanical room and restrooms.

There was heat, smoke, and water damage to the lobby and office areas.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and the bank will be closed for an undisclosed amount of time, according to the fire department.
