If you're up for a bit of a road trip, Charlotte Motor Speedway is bringing back its summer drive-in movie series and will screen several blockbusters on a 16,000-square-foot HDTV. Audio plays through your car radio.

The first movie in the Drive-In to Drive Out Hunger movies series is this week, and screenings will continue through August. Here's the schedule:

  • Wednesday, June 30, “Trolls." Following the screening, there will be a fireworks show. Tickets for opening night, including the fireworks spectacular, are $40 per vehicle, up to 10 people.
  • July 21, "The Peanuts Movie." Tickets are $30.
  • Aug. 11, "The Greatest Showman." Tickets are $30.

Gates open at 5 p.m. each night. Movies are scheduled to start at 7 p.m, rain or shine.

Proceeds will benefit Speedway Children's Charities' efforts to support organizations that fight food insecurity in the Charlotte area. More information and ticket details are on the speedway's website. It's about 2.5 hours from Raleigh.
