For those with sensory issues, loud noises, crowds and bright lights can be difficult to navigate around and through. And that can make attending big community events, like this weekend's SPARKcon in downtown Raleigh, tough to do.

But, this year, SPARKcon organizers are hoping to make it a little easier for those with sensory sensitivities, including people with autism. During this year's festival, they'll be offering up some sensory friendly packs, which can be found at the festival's headquarters inside VAE Raleigh, 309 W. Martin St. The packs include noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, fidgets and books, according to the festival's website.

SPARKcon showcases all manner of creativity - from art, theater and dance to circus performances. architecture, food and more. It runs Friday, Sept. 13, to Sunday, Sept. 15.

You'll find something for everyone among all the "sparks," as organizers call them. But parents, especially of younger children, will want to note kidSPARK. It runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the corner of West Hargett and South Harrington streets. There will be various make-and-take activities.

Other "sparks" that families should take note of include artSPARK at Harrington, Commerce and Hargett streets. Artists will be chalking 250 sidewalk squares. It's fun to watch!

There's also circusSPARK at Union Station Plaza on Friday and Saturday. There will be a variety of performances, including a stilt parade at 7 p.m., Saturday.

And that's just a small bit of what's planned. Check out SPARKcon's website for all the details.
