I wrote about summer reading programs a month or more ago, but I just wanted to give a shout out to the one at Barnes & Noble.
The program is for kids in grades one through six. During the summer, they can read any eight books and then record them in a summer reading journal that you can pick up at a local Barnes & Noble store or print off online. The reading journal requires kids to fill out the title and author of the book, along with a sentence or two about their favorite part.

Then, between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31, you can bring in your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store to pick up a free book from a list of options, depending on the child's grade.

My younger daughter did this last year and had such a hard time picking out a book that we actually bought a couple more. (Well played, Barnes & Noble.)
