Man, 79, killed while trying to cross Goldsboro highway
A 79-year-old man died Sunday when he was struck by a car while crossing the road.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A 79-year-old man died Sunday when he was struck by a car while crossing the road.
According to officials with the State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. on N.C. Highway 111 at Ditchbank Road.
Officials said Howard Lee Birdwell, Jr., was attempting to cross N.C. 111 and was hit by a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is under investigation. Officials have not said if the driver will face charges.
