Pedestrian struck and killed in Johnston County, authorities say
A driver has been arrested and is facing charges after a pedestrian was killed early Friday while walking outside Benson, authorities said.

A Benson man was struck and killed Saturday before dawn as he walked on on Federal Road near Elevation Road, authorities said.
It was not immediately clear why Forrest Louis Williams, 53, was walking in the road.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Thelbert Gene Byrd, 49, of Benson, was driving westbound around 3:45 a.m. when he struck Williams.
The highway patrol originally expected Byrd to be charged with DWI, but an investigation found no probable cause for that charge.
Byrd was charged with driving without a license.
