— A wrong-way driver caused a two-vehicle wreck early Friday on Interstate 40 West between U.S. Highway 15-501 and N.C. Highway 86.

According to state Highway Patrol troopers, a Honda Civic was traveling east in the westbound lanes at about 4:30 a.m. when it hit a pickup truck head on.

"People are swerving and going everywhere," one caller told emergency dispatchers. "It's just ridiculous."

The woman driving the Honda and the man driving the truck were both taken to local hospitals. Their names and conditions have not been released. No other people were inside the cars.

The wreck briefly closed both westbound lanes of I-40 West. The lanes reopened at about 6:20 a.m.

[band it was Republicans that wanted to require all voters to have a license.... you know, with the assumption that lower income families probably wouldn't have cars or licenses, and would therefore not be able to vote for the DEMOCRATIC runners. After all, I highly doubt many lower income families are Republicans, because what do Republicans ever want to do to help the lower class??][/b] You know what happens when you "assume"? The PEOPLE want picture ID's to prevent voter fraud. You need a picture ID to cash a check or do most anything else. I have for many years before this was a hot topic wondered why ID was not required to vote. Republicans, or better Conservatives , lean more toward teaching people how to fish rather than giving them a free fish every day. You should change your handle to "parrot"....as you're repeating a mantra from someone else rather than discovering the real back story

Why don't them build the ramps with the same spikes they put on car rental returns so that cars can't enter going the wrong direction? Seems like a simple solution.

Right..... because people here legally are all perfect citizens who never commit crimes or drive recklessly, we should all assume the driver was here illegally (which is clearly what you are implying)

Really?? I thought it was the other way around, and it was Republicans that wanted to require all voters to have a license.... you know, with the assumption that lower income families probably wouldn't have cars or licenses, and would therefore not be able to vote for the DEMOCRATIC runners. After all, I highly doubt many lower income families are Republicans, because what do Republicans ever want to do to help the lower class?? I think you have it mixed up, buddy. But nice try.

    Alcohol and Ambien.

"Although the Ambien prescribing information warned, in small print, that medications in the hypnotic class had occasional side effects including sleep walking, “abnormal thinking,” and “strange behavior,” these behaviors were listed as extremely rare, and any anecdotal evidence of “sleep driving,” “sleep eating,” or “sleep shopping”—all behaviors now associated with Ambien blackouts—were characterized as unusual quirks, or attributed to mixing the medication with alcohol."
