RALEIGH, N.C. — Transportation crews doing maintenance work will shut down three of four lanes of Interstate 40 for two miles in Raleigh overnight Sunday.

The lane closure will go from Exit 297 onto Lake Wheeler Road to Exit 299 onto Hammond Road. The closure will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and last until 6 a.m. Monday.

If more time is needed for repairs, then the two rightmost eastbound lanes of the same section will be closed between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday. Also, the on-ramp to I-40 East from South Saunders Street and the off-ramp from I-40 East to Hammond Road will be closed.

In that scenario, motorists on South Saunders Street needing to access I-40 East will be directed to take I-40 West to Lake Wheeler Road to I-40 East. Motorists on I-40 East needing to access Hammond Road will be directed to continue on I-40 East to Rock Quarry Road to I-40 West to Hammond Road.
