Suspect identified in February Spring Lake homicide

Detectives have obtained a first-degree murder warrant for a 26-year-old man wanted in the February killing of a Spring Lake man.

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Detectives have obtained a first-degree murder warrant for a 26-year-old man wanted in the February killing of a Spring Lake man.

Ryan Scott White is wanted for the murder of Horace Rufus Epps, 54, who was found in the roadway on the 1300 block of Gary Street on Feb. 15. Epps, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he later died.

Epps was seen leaving a Walmart in Spring Lake with a man about 30 minutes before he was found shot. Investigators have not said if Epps was with White at the business.

White is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing approximately 170-180 pounds. Anyone with information regarding White’s whereabouts is asked to contact Spring Lake police at (910) 436-0350 or CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS.
