Roanoke Rapids man arrested after chase

— A Roanoke Rapids man who led police on a chase down Morgan Drive was arrested Tuesday, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responding to a stolen vehicle call in Roanoke Rapids said they spotted Leon Lemont Hunter driving a car matching the stolen vehicle's description. A sheriff's deputy tried to stop the car, but a chase ensued, police said.

The car wrecked on Morgan Drive and Hunter tried to flee on foot, authorities said. He was arrested a short time later on West 10th Street.

Hunter was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, damage to property, larceny, possession of stolen goods, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a police officer and possession of marijuana.

He is being held in the Halifax County jail under a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court March 6.

    Well at least he gets to spend the next month in jail before his court date. And before the weak judges allow him to go free.... again.

    So much for marijuana not being bad. If he hadn't been so stoned, he wouldn't have crashed and gotten away. :-))
