FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives arrested a registered sex offender Tuesday after they said he arranged to meet a teenage girl he contacted through a social networking site he maintained.

Richard Arnold Ferguson, 32, of the 300 block of Maloney Avenue in Fayetteville, had been released from prison in May after serving time for a similar crime. He had been arrested in March 2011 for having a Facebook account, which is a violation of sex offender status restrictions.

He was charged Tuesday with soliciting a child by computer to commit unlawful sex acts and use of commercial social networking site by a sex offender.

Undercover detectives arrested Ferguson in a park behind the town's main library at 300 Maiden Lane, where they said he had arranged to meet a 15-year-old girl to have sex. Detectives did not give the name of the online site Ferguson allegedly maintained.

Ferguson was held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $250,000 secured bond. He is scheduled for a court appearance Wednesday.
