Sex offender arrested for having Facebook

Cumberland County sheriff's deputies arrested a registered sex offender Monday for having a Facebook account, which is a violation of sex offender status restrictions.

Richard Arnold Ferguson, 29, of 2702 Graham Road in Fayetteville, was being held at the Cumberland County jail under a $10,000 bond. He faces felony charges of disseminating material harmful to minors in addition to charges of maintaining a social networking site.

It wasn't clear whether the felony charges were new or were already pending when he was arrested Monday.

According to police, Ferguson said he accessed his Facebook account from a neighbor's house.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
