Raleigh police officer crashes cruiser on beltline

A Raleigh police officer was taken to WakeMed Hospital early Saturday after crashing his cruiser into a tree around 3:30 a.m., authorities said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh police officer was taken to WakeMed Hospital early Saturday after crashing his cruiser into a tree around 3:30 a.m., authorities said. 

The officer, whose name was not released, was driving westbound on Interstate 440 when he lost control of his car near the Wade Avenue exit. According to a police spokesman, the officer's injuries weren't life-threatening. 

No information about the cause of the accident was released.
