RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man still recovering after a fatal St. Patrick's Day drunken-driving crash was indicted this week on additional charges of second-degree murder in the case.

Ray Norman Rouse IV, 34, was driving west in an eastbound lane of Wade Avenue on the afternoon of March 17 when he struck a car driven by Ormond Jackson Bailey.

Bailey, 83, and his wife, Gaynell Batton Bailey, 79, died from their injuries at WakeMed.

Rouse was indicted in April on two counts of felony death by motor vehicle but the charges were upgraded after further investigation, according to Wake County Assistant District Attorney Jason Waller.

"We believe the facts of this case support the more serious charge," Waller said.

According to a search warrant, a witness reported that Rouse was coming from a brunch and had been drinking prior to the wreck.

He was listed in good condition Thursday at WakeMed.

According to court records, he pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Durham County after a September 2001 arrest. Similar charges were dismissed against him in April 2005 in Wake County and February 2006 in Wake County.
