Cost of State Fair Ticket Goes Up

Updated October 11, 2007

The North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh will kick off this Friday. This year, a good time will cost a little more.

The price of an adult ticket went up $1 this year to $7. The cost of a sheet of ride tickets is the same, but you will get six fewer tickets per sheet.

"I think it is too much, but it is the fair and it only comes once a year,” fair-goer Tracy McLean said.

McLean and her family spent $150 Tuesday on advance admission and ride tickets.

Brian Long, with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, said this is the first admission-price hike at the State Fair in 14 years.

"The cost of doing business has gone up. The cost of putting on a fair has gone up," Long said.

Despite the way it looks, organizers said the State Fair is still fair, cost-wise.

There is still time to save money on State Fair tickets. You can purchase reduced-price tickets in advance at walk-up locations and online.

The North Carolina State Fair will run through Oct. 21.

I remember the first time I went to the state fair--it was 1981 and that's when James E. Strates Shows were around--it's not been nearly as good since. But with a price hike in fourteen years that says quite a bit.

I mainly go for the food and games :)

I am so glad it is almost fair time. I go for the food and it is worth every penny to get those deep fried oreos, turkey legs, funnel cake, roasted corn on the cob and candy apples

I have always LOVED the fair! Especially the "gloaming" hour.... sunsetting - lights come on - hopefully a brisk breeze....the smells.... the excitement - there is nothing in the world that can compare to that feeling - no not Carowinds or any park... ppl that love the fair - know what I am talking about..... I will go as many times as I can! You dont have to spend a lot of money if you dont want to - best stuff is free! But who can resist the fair food lol not me - I aint even gonna try.... Smiles

Everything at the fair is overpriced. It is a good time, but not worth the $$ in my opinion.

The only time I went "all the way" with a hot dog, it wasn't in the stadium.

Now go ahead all of you politically correct minded people and sink your teeth into that one (I mean this figuratively).

I WANT A HOT DOG ALL THE WAY, YOU YANKEES WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT..

Yes, because they do not sell "all the way" hotdogs at Yankee Stadium. I can't even fathom how you are so much more ahead of us in the culture perspective. You must be proud.
