The North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh will kick off this Friday. This year, a good time will cost a little more.

The price of an adult ticket went up $1 this year to $7. The cost of a sheet of ride tickets is the same, but you will get six fewer tickets per sheet.

"I think it is too much, but it is the fair and it only comes once a year,” fair-goer Tracy McLean said.

McLean and her family spent $150 Tuesday on advance admission and ride tickets.

Brian Long, with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, said this is the first admission-price hike at the State Fair in 14 years.

"The cost of doing business has gone up. The cost of putting on a fair has gone up," Long said.

Despite the way it looks, organizers said the State Fair is still fair, cost-wise.

There is still time to save money on State Fair tickets. You can purchase reduced-price tickets in advance at walk-up locations and online.

The North Carolina State Fair will run through Oct. 21.
