CARY, N.C. — The Cary YMCA Superskippers were named National Jump Rope Champions after skipping ahead of over 50 teams and 400 athletes in the 2012 USA Jump Rope National Championships in Long Beach, Calif.
The team tied for first place overall in the competition and placed first in overall speed events and overall freestyle events. Individual team members scooped up several Grand National Awards and Age Division Awards.

The World Jump Rope Tournament was held July 4-8 in Washington, D.C., a competition featuring over 700 athletes from around the globe. Superskippers Alivia Canter, Sara Chen, Jessie Robinson and Grace Forster won first place in the Double Dutch Freestyle category, and Graham Booth placed first in the Male 30-Second Speed category.

And the journey doesn't stop there: several team members will be traveling to Tampa, Fla., in August for the FISAC international competition.

Select team members were recently featured on the Live! With Kelly show, where they performed a double dutch routine with Michelle Obama.

The Superskippers were founded in 1994 and today has over 60 athletes who compete in regional, national and international competitions. The team has won dozens of national medals, won overall gold in the 2006 Worlds competition and tied for second place overall at the USAJR Nationals in 2011. Team members even appeared in the 2010 Macy's Day Parade.
