SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A Broadway man was riding his motorcycle in Spring Lake early Saturday when he ran off the road, struck a mailbox and flew off the vehicle, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Brandon Joseph Cullen Towle, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was an airman at Fort Bragg, according to troopers.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened around 5:45 a.m. on Nursery Road near the Overhills Road intersection.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation, but troopers said they don't believe speed was a factor.

Towle's ex-wife told investigators that she spoke with him around 4 a.m. and that he was returning home from a club in Fayetteville.
