— A man who was critically injured after he tried to break up a fight Saturday outside a Smithfield business has died.

WakeMed officials confirmed Tuesday that Gerald Luther Burton Jr. 38, who was on life support at the hospital, is deceased.

Burton was knocked to the pavement as he tried to intervene in a fight outside Hookah House, a coffeehouse and smoking establishment at 181 Venture Drive, authorities said. Burton was a bouncer at the Hookah House.

Trenton Kyle Hensley, 19, of Old Beulah Road in Kenly, was charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Mr. Burton was a security guard at the business. I hope they are forthcoming with murder charges against this guy soon.

Hookah House is not a coffee shop. this is a bar. they have pool tables and they do serve alcohol. this place has had lots of fights and trouble. it needs to be shut down.

They arent sure if Hensely is the one who dealt the fatal blow to Mr. Barton. Folks have got to learn to quit going to joints like that and be around troublemakers cause if you play with fire long enough you are sure to get burned. I feel terrible for this man and his family. I can think of several places I'd rather be than a joint called the Hooka House.
