Edgecombe teacher charged with sexual misconduct

Andrew Joyner Harrell

— A Southwest Edgecombe High School teacher was charged Wednesday with sex crimes involving students, Sheriff James Knight said.

Andrew Joyner Harrell, 28. of 1710 Lewis Road in Fountain, was charged with indecent liberties with a student and felony dissemination of obscenity. He was placed in the Edgecombe County jail under a $5,000 bond.

School officials called authorities Wednesday about a possible sex offense involving a staff member and students. Knight said investigators determined that, during the 2013-14 school year, a teacher sent a photo of his genitals to one student and tried to have another student perform a sex act.

Harrell is a physical education teacher and baseball coach at Southwest Edgecombe High. There was no immediate word on any disciplinary action taken by the school.

Wow, you're real good at cherrypicking a story to deflect that fact a white person did this. You must be a conservative. Larry Craig?

Well rumors in that part of the state are about him liking animals too. Miss Sarah best take her poodle to the vet to find out if that boy violated it or not.

These comments sound more like "gotcha back" and in some cases deservedly so .
However, this man is innocent until proven guilty .
I remember a group of students setting up a teacher who did absolutely nothing.
If guilty, he deserves the punishment.

If you don't wish to believe Minnesota, maybe the FBI would be more to your liking.

Really? How does racism have a place in this discussion? It does nothing to further the discussion of an very real issue in today's society.
