HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — A community gathered Saturday to remember those who were lost in a tragic crash last fall.

Shane Mitchell Garner, 23, Austin Stewart Ferrell, 20, and Casey Dell Edens, 16, were killed in a fiery wreck on Neills Creek Road near Buies Creek on Nov. 10.

Autumn Ashlyn Zimmer, 17, and Marina Troyano, 17, both juniors at Harnett Central High survived the crash.

The "Forever in Our Hearts" benefit was an outdoor event held at the Hog Heaven Motocross in Godwin. A big portion of the proceeds will be divided evenly among the five families that were impacted by the crash.

"The only thing that really keeps me going is knowing that I tell myself that there's people out there who have had it worse," said crash survivor Autumn Zimmer.

Zimmer and Marina Troyano suffered numerous injuries and broken bones in the wreck.

"I don't remember anything," Troyano said. "Nothing at all. And I am glad I don't."

Authorities said they believe the truck, driven by Garner, sped through a license check point on U.S. Highway 421 near Campbell University and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

"Teenagers make mistakes every day," said Garner's aunt, Debra Hord. "None of us, I don't think, can say that they've never made a mistake. Unfortunately, it was just a bad mistake."
