A woman faces charges after authorities said she used her vehicle to drag a Wilson County Highway Patrol trooper who was trying to arrest her across a parking lot on Sunday.

WILSON, N.C. — A woman faces charges after authorities said she used her vehicle to drag a Wilson County Highway Patrol trooper who was trying to arrest her across a parking lot on Sunday.

Kelly Lewis, 30, is charged with driving while intoxicated and felony assault on a law enforcement officer, according to the highway patrol.

The incident occurred when trooper B.S. Johnson of Wilson pulled over Lewis’ vehicle in the Kangaroo gas station parking lot at 4940 US 264 Alternate Hwy in Wilson. Authorities said Johnson was trying to make an arrest when Lewis refused to get out of her vehicle. When Johnson reached into the vehicle to unlock the car door, Lewis drove away.

Johnson’s arm was still inside the vehicle when it drove across the parking lot. He fell to the ground before Lewis pulled onto US-264 Alternate Highway, authorities said.

Johnson was treated and released from Wilson Medical Center, He sustained cuts and abrasions on his elbows and hands.

Lewis was arrested and taken to the Wilson County jail. She is out on bond and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
