Two local singers will compete in the Knockout rounds of The Voice on Monday.

Sanford native Britton Buchanan will fight to stay on "Team Alicia" by singing "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel, and Chapel Hill native and "Team Adam" contestant Rayshun Lamarr will perform "Fallin" by Alicia Keys.

Despite his age, 18-year-old Buchanan is no stranger to the stage.

He's been performing for years in North Carolina, which he says has helped him in this competition. "The rehearsal processes and the one-on-one time with your coach is super nerve-wracking," said Buchanan. "But when I get up there for the performance, I feel at home on a stage."

Lamarr's grandfather, Carl Purefoy, said he always felt his grandson's love for music.

"I remember we bought him some drums one Christmas and he just beat them to death and after he beat the drums, he started beating the walls. There were little spots all on the walls, but he just loved music," Purefoy said.

Lamarr has said his grandfather is his inspiration and Purefoy said he tears up every time he sees his grandson on TV.

A "The Voice" watch party will be held tonight in Sanford and featured on WRAL's 11 p.m. news. You can watch The Voice at 8 p.m. on NBC.
