WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Travel to the spooky side of Wake Forest for the Spirits of Wake Forest haunted history tour.

The event is planned for Thursday through Sunday evenings throughout the month of October. Tours run about an hour and 15 minutes and will take place at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 6 p.m., Sunday.

The ghost walk will feature stories about "tragic train wrecks, murderous mamas and 'borrowed' corpses" that make up a small part of the more than 100-year-old downtown's history, according to a description.

This isn't a super scary event with ghouls jumping out at you from dark corners. Jennifer Herbert, who is one of the organizers for the town, tells me it's recommended for ages 5 and up and is definitely family friendly. There is some discussion about death (it is a ghost tour), but the goal isn't to be scary, she tells me.

Tickets are for sale now. They are $15 for adults and $12 for kids ages 10 and under. Anybody under the age of 17 must be with an adult.

Because of the pandemic, tours will be limited to no more than 15 participants each and will be conducted entirely outdoors. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and storytellers will make every effort to stand at least six feet from participants, who also are encouraged to maintain a physical distance from others. Following state law, everybody age five and up must wear a mask.

More information, including ticket details, is on Wake Forest's website.
