Posted — UpdatedSome Wake County elementary schools will have special events Feb. 2 for families who still need to register their rising kindergartner for school next fall.
Pre-enrollment for rising kindergartners began in late November. So far, parents have registered more than 6,800 children for kindergarten next year. But that's not much more than half of the 12,000 kindergartners who are expected to begin school next year, according to Wake schools.
Because of the new school choice assignment plan, the school system moved the registration and enrollment for kindergartners earlier this year. This month, school officials asked for help in getting the word out about the need to register.
Rising kindergartners and new students must pre-enroll if they want to participate in the new school choice selection process.
To encourage parents to register their children, many Wake elementary schools will hold special events on Feb. 2.
