As many of our eyes are turned to Washington, D.C., this week, I thought I'd share some links to videos and resources for kids about American history and politics. And, yep, it's mostly Schoolhouse Rock.

The Preamble

There has been lots of talk about the Constitution, and that's what this song from Schoolhouse Rock is all about. It's a classic.

I'm Just a Bill

How does a bill become a law? Schoolhouse Rock explains it.

Three Ring Government

Learn all about the three branches of government in another Schoolhouse Rock classic.

Fireworks

The Declaration of Independence is the focus in this Schoolhouse Rock video.

Vote Poster

The National Museum of American History takes a closer look at a vote poster to explain the importance of voting. Best for grade schoolers.

And, for older kids, PBS has a great series of videos about checks and balances, the market economy, government regulation. monetary and fiscal policy and more. Head over to PBS's website to see them all.
