FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two people died and another two were injured in shootings over the weekend in Fayetteville.
One of the people who died was 18-year-old Isaac Locklear. He was shot and left on the side of Doc Bennett Road on Sunday night.
Isaac Locklear, 18, was shot and killed in Fayetteville on Sunday night.

Locklear's girlfriend and family put up a memorial on the road where he was killed, made up of balloons and a small cross.

"He was going to be the best father ever," Danyale Locklear said, through tears.

Danyale Locklear is pregnant with Isaac's baby, who will be born in October. Now, she is starting a family without him.

"I just want to know who would do this to him?" she asked.

Officials said that he was killed after a fight outside the Mansion Cabaret.

Rash of shootings in Fayetteville over the weekend

Fayetteville police responded to four shooting calls on Sunday.

Less than hour before finding Isaac Locklear's body, police responded to a call about shots fired outside a home on School Street. When they arrived, they found 22-year-old Jabori Surles had been shot multiple times after a fight. Not too long after, a second man was found injured down the road.

Another man was injured in a shooting on Oakland Drive on Sunday night. His injuries were not life-threatening, officials said.

Through the first five months of 2021, gunfire killed more than 8,000 people across America — which is about 54 lives a day, the Washington Post reports.
The current crime surge is believed to be fueled by the pandemic, which has created economic hardship, displacement and anxiety.

Fayetteville Police Sgt. Jeremy Glass said it's discouraging to see rising crime in the city.

"We're on track for a record year of homicides, which is unfortunate, because we were actually on a downward trend on property crime," Glass said.

Last Wednesday, President Joe Biden held a news conference warning Americans to anticipate a "summer spike" in gun violence.

Biden discussed establishing an assault weapons ban, a move that needs to be approved by Congress. He said he would make sure to protect American's Second Amendment rights and would also give police more funding.
