Trump to return to NC for 9th District rally

President Donald Trump's rally will support Republican Dan Bishop, who is running against Democrat Dan McCready in the 9th Congressional District.

RALEIGH, N.C. — President Donald Trump said Thursday on Twitter that he'll return to North Carolina for a campaign rally.

The rally will support Republican state Sen. Dan Bishop, who is running against Democrat Dan McCready and two other candidates in the 9th Congressional District.

After the November 2018 election, Republican Mark Harris led McCready by 905 votes, but the state elections board ordered a new election after finding evidence of absentee ballot tampering by Harris campaign operative McCrae Dowless.

Dowless has been indicted on two counts of obstruction of justice and one count each of conspiracy to obstruct justice, illegal possession of an absentee ballot, perjury and solicitation to commit perjury. Six others were also indicted in the alleged scheme on charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice, illegal possession of an absentee ballot and falsely certifying absentee ballots.

9th Congressional District Coverage

Early voting for the new 9th District race began Wednesday, and Election Day is Sept. 10.

In his tweet, Trump said he would be back in North Carolina "soon" but did not say when or where the rally would take place.

Trump visited Greenville in July. The rally included chants of "send her back" about Rep. Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia but became a citizen when she was 17, which drew national attention.
